Coming home to a clean house after a long day at the office is wonderful, but cleaning for hours and hours to get your home tidy is not! A regular, routine schedule provides you with the ability to maintain a clean, tidy home without spending hours on cleaning each evening. By breaking down your big cleaning chores into manageable tasks and smaller time increments, you keep your home clean and have more free time on nights and weekends for family, friends and fun.
Creating a good cleaning schedule takes time and planning. To keep your tasks manageable and reduce your overwhelm, I suggest breaking your tasks down into 15-30 minute cleaning blocks. Performing a few quick tasks each day will keep your home tidy and save you time.

A Good Cleaning Schedule
A good cleaning schedule is comprised of daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly tasks. Some tasks, like tidying-up and washing dishes, are daily chores. Other tasks such as cleaning your carpets, windows and curtains can be done quarterly or yearly. I created a cleaning schedule that breaks down important cleaning tasks by room and frequency. You can get the cleaning schedule below.
Cleaning Frequency
I break my cleaning chores down into daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly/yearly tasks and by areas in my home. To help me stay focused and on-task, I do a few cleaning tasks every day. On days that I schedule a P.O.W.E.R. hour focused on cleaning, I use the weekly cleaning section to fill that hour. For example, my Monday P.O.W.E.R. hour usually focuses on cleaning all of my bathrooms. I am able to do all the tasks under the weekly bathrooms section during my P.O.W.E.R. hour.
Daily
A daily, 10-minute tidy-up helps keep your home clean. My 10-minute tidy-up routine covers all of the daily tasks listed in red under the daily cleaning section. A quick, daily, 10-minute tidy-up ensures your home is always tidy and the mess never gets out of control. By tidying-up everyday, you minimize the amount of time you have to devote to routine cleaning. Tidying-up saves you time and energy.
WEEKLY
It’s great to schedule several P.O.W.E.R. hours each week and devote some of that time to cleaning. I dedicate P.O.W.E.R. hour time each week to clean the kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms and living area. During those cleaning P.O.W.E.R. hours, I follow the weekly section of the cleaning schedule for the specific area I am cleaning that day.
MONTHLY
Chores under the monthly cleaning section can be spread out and done sporadically throughout the month as your schedule permits it. Some months, I schedule an entire Saturday and knock out as many of the monthly tasks as I can. Some months, I schedule extra time each week to work on tasks. Do whatever works best for your schedule and needs that month. I try to get a good, thorough dusting (baseboards, blinds and ceiling fans) each month due to our allergies, but sometimes life is too busy and that only happens every other month. Don’t worry if you can’t get everything done each day, month, week or quarter. Just do the best you can- something is better than nothing!
QUARTERLY AND/OR YEARLY
Tasks in this section are only done a couple of times a year, thank goodness! These are my least favorite tasks! I don’t know anyone that enjoys cleaning their oven, cleaning behind their refrigerator or cleaning windows! But these chores must be done, so schedule time throughout the year to complete these tasks. I do many of these tasks during Spring cleaning.
CLEAN & REPEAT
Create a routine to clean and then repeat week after week to save you time, energy and frustration. Regular tidying-up ensures that your home is always ready for the unexpected guest. Keeping up with a regular routine will allow you to come home to clean house everyday after work. A home cleaning schedule means less mess and less stress!
